Texas Center for the Visually Challenged

Opening Worlds - One Computer at a Time

The Volunteers

The North Texas PC Users Group (NTPCUG) is a volunteer organization dedicated to the advancement of education, development, and advancement of PC Users in the greater Dallas Area. As part of their mission, NTPCUG has formed a long-term relationship with the TCVC. They provide the volunteers that staff the TCVC Refurbishing Center.

The Center is open Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. When work load is heavy, Saturday hours are sometimes needed.

Every Tuesday and Thursday a group of 10 - 15 volunteers meet to refurbish the computers donated to TCVC. The services provided include:

  • Pick up of donated computers
  • Security cleansing of hardware
  • Configuration of hardware and software
  • Reliability testing
  • Packing and shipping of systems

The NTPCUG is responsible for the collection and refurbishing over 4100 computers for the visually challenged.

We are always in search of new volunteers. Technical, business, and organizational skills are all valued. It is not necessary to be a member of the NTPCUG to volunteer with TCVC.
